Runecaster
A downloadable game
Runecaster is a narrative TTRPG for 2 to 5+ players about learning magic through spectacular failure. Play as rookie mages who cast unique spells by combining runes. Magic is full of unintended consequences and new discoveries. Magic will just as often blow up in your face as it will light your way.
If you loved the magic systems of Witch Hat Atelier, Magicka, Lost Magic, or The Name of the Wind, this game is for you!
The pivotal mechanic in Runecaster is spellcasting, which you do by mixing together nine different runes in various combinations. Based on your casting conduit, the environment, the GM's whims, and many other unknown knowables, you will collaboratively determine unique spells. But the thing is, you are only a student, and magical Runes are cryptic.
Runecaster makes for a fun and chaotic one-off, as well as a full campaign game with character progression. In shorter games, you will revel in accidentally blowing up your friends or giving a helpless creature aggressive cancer. But in longer games, you will develop theories, gain new magical masteries, and start to slowly crack the code on just how magic works.
This game contains:
- Original, dice-optional game system
- Ready-to-play adventure that eases you into the game
- 10 example characters
- Trove of example spells and magical modifiers
- Example of play that models spellcasting
